Part of January Consignment Auction (timed auction by Fred Wilson Auction Service LLC)

High bid $22.00

Status: Sold

This is a 19th-century wooden barrel butter churn, complete with its original hand-crank mechanism. Crafted from solid wood with metal banding for reinforcement, this piece was designed for the efficient churning of cream into butter. The interior features slatted paddles, visible through the open lid, which aided in the butter-making process. A stamped marking on the wood with offers a clue to its provenance and possible manufacturer. This type of churn was a common sight on farms during this time period, prior to the widespread adoption of industrial processing. A beautiful example of early American craftsmanship.
